Children becoming “Water Ambassadors”

The opening ceremony of the “Technical Assistance for Water Ambassadors Education and Awareness Raising Project” co-financed by European Union and Republic of Turkey, aiming to achieve raising awareness on protection of environment and water sources, was held with a large number of participation on 22nd of February at Hilton Hotel. Project implemented with the cooperation of the Ministry of National Education, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, TRT and technical assistance of WYG Türkiye. Conference welcomed and hosted by Mr. Faruk Tekindağ Regional Managing Director for WYG Türkiye, Mr. Gabriel Munuera Vinals, Deputy Head of Delegation Minister Counsellor, Mr. Orhan Erdem, Deputy Minister of National Education, Mr. Akif Özkaldı, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öztürk, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.

Technical Assistance for Water Ambassadors Education and Awareness Raising Project will be implemented from Ankara, as the central province, in Western Mediterranean, Konya Closed and Eastern Black Sea basins as the pilot areas. The Project aims to make contributions to the sustainability of environment protection and non-polluted and rational use of water.

Through the Project, it is aimed to raise the awareness for the environment protection and ensure the efficient use of water resources.

Within the scope of the Project, the awareness level of children and young people along with the general public will be raised through trainings and media platforms while their knowledge and skills will be developed via different communication tools. Additionally, by providing support for the educational capacity of the stakeholders’ personnel, there will totally be 40,000 people that will have been educated in 3 pilot basins in this respect.

Several awareness raising communication campaigns will be conducted for the public opinion both on the national and international levels in terms of water use and environment protection within the framework of the Project.

Primary target groups of the Project are students in the basic education system, university students, young people, teachers and mothers. Initialized in January 2017, the Project is aimed to be completed towards the end of 2017.
