Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme 2018–2019 Academic Year Monitoring and Study Visit – Brussels, Belgium (29–30 November 2018)
Within the scope of the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Directorate for EU Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, 70 scholars continuing their academic studies at leading educational institutions in Europe convened in Brussels on 29–30 November 2018 for the Monitoring and Study Visit.
The visit was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Deputy Minister of National Education Reha Denemeç, Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Christian Berger, President of the Central Finance and Contracts Unit Mehmet Selim Uslu, Deputy Permanent Delegate of Turkey to the EU Dr. F. H. Burak Erdenir, and Head of Project Implementation Department at the Directorate for EU Affairs Bülent Özcan.
The visit aimed to follow the reflections of the latest developments in Turkey’s EU accession process in Brussels while also providing an opportunity to directly present Turkey’s progress and transformation to European counterparts.
TÜSİAD’s Brussels Representative Ms. Dilek Aydın, who has consistently supported the traditional Jean Monnet Brussels Gatherings, briefed the scholars on the main activities and objectives of the TÜSİAD Brussels Office. The networking cocktail was attended by Deputy Minister and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Christian Berger, Turkish officials based in Brussels, private sector representatives, civil society organizations, and members of the Turkish press.
On the second day of the visit, the delegation visited the TOBB Brussels Representation, the umbrella organization of the Turkish business community. During the meeting, participants were informed about the representation’s efforts to strengthen business relations between Turkey and the EU and to enhance civil society dialogue.
