The Second Training on Capacity Building in the Area of EU Acquis Completed in Ankara
Within the scope of the “Turkey and the European Union Twinning Project (TWIN)”, which aims to enhance administrative capacity during the EU accession process, the second session of the “Capacity Building Trainings on EU Acquis” was completed at the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB) in Ankara between 27–30 November 2018.
The training program began with opening speeches by Mr. Cemal Baş, Head of the Project and Finance Unit at TBB, and Mr. Bülent Özcan, Head of Project Implementation Department at the Directorate for EU Affairs.
The four-day training featured presentations by Prof. Dr. Birgül Demirtaş, Prof. Dr. Sanem Baykal, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Başak Alpan, representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, as well as Volkan Topçu, Fikret Toksöz, Gerald Dawson, and the project’s Team Leader Sadun Emrealp.
With the participation of over 50 attendees, the training program covered the following topics:
- An overview of the EU and the EU acquis,
- The existing framework for the localization of acquis chapters,
- Harmonization activities of local administrations in selected EU acquis chapters,
- Capacity building for the localization of EU chapters,
- Enhancing citizens’ awareness regarding the EU accession process,
- Sharing the experiences of previous candidate countries.
The program concluded with a certificate ceremony and a group photo session.
