Turkey Environmental Labeling System (TÇES) Dissemination and Strengthening Project
The opening meeting of the “Turkey Environmental Labeling System (TÇES) Dissemination and Strengthening Project”, financed by the World Bank and with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change as the main beneficiary, was held on July 10, 2023, in Ankara with the participation of officials from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, representatives of the World Bank, and stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
The project aims to provide the Government of Turkey with options and recommendations to further strengthen the TÇES and to define environmental labeling criteria for selected product groups (paints and varnishes, bathroom fittings) considered key to protecting the country’s natural capital.
The meeting, which began with the opening speech by Mr. Mehrali ECER, Director General of Environmental Impact Assessment, Permit and Inspection, continued with speeches by Ms. Sibel GÜLEN and Mr. Sameer AKBAR on behalf of the World Bank Group. Following the presentation of the Turkey Environmental Labeling System by Mr. Serkan ATAY, Head of the Environmental Management System and Environmental Labeling Department, the meeting concluded with presentations by key project experts Dr. Yulia GRACHEVA, Member of the Board of the Global Ecolabelling Network and Chair of the Communication Subcommittee, and Dr. Hüdai KARA, along with a Q&A session.
