EXTERNAL REVIEW OF THE NATIONAL NGO POLICY OF THE REPUBLIC OF BOTSWANA

Project Objectives and Results:

The overall objective was to contribute to enhancing the partnership between Government and CSOs to achieve national development goals as set in the NDP11 and Vision 2036. The aim is to develop a more strategic and accountable framework for CSOs – Government relations, characterised by an effective participation of CSOs in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development policy, while safeguarding independence and autonomy of CSOs.

Project activities:

  • Undertaking external assessment of the implementation of the NGO Policy over the past five years, identifying lessons and best practices to inform the review of the policy;
  • Appreciating the current status of civil society, the enabling environment and the relationship with government, identifying drivers of change and entry points to enhance dialogue, partnership and overall effectiveness and relevance of the sector;
  • Providing recommendations to review the NGO Policy, addressing the issues highlighted above and any other aspect deemed relevant;
  • Providing inputs into the review of the NGO Policy, ensuring its adequacy with the current context and strategic priorities of government and civil society.
