Project Objectives and Results:

The overall objective is the linking of rural primary producers to markets by supporting their sustainable productivity and adaptation to climate change, the development of rural-based value chains and the enhancement of the business environment for rural entrepreneurs. The specific objective will be to identify viable initiatives leading to a strengthened livestock value chain in communal areas of Namibia, which will improve sustainable livelihoods and employment opportunities for primary producers and other actors in the chain.

Project Activities:

  • Validate existing socio-economic analyses of cattle farming in the NCAs and assess its position and opportunities within the beef value chain;
  • Analyse the relevant policy and regulatory framework, the main stakeholders and institutions in charge, from both the public and private sectors, existing interventions and investments along the value chain.
  • Identify and prioritize the necessary strategic interventions which could be supported by EU, including programmes and specific projects along the value chain, implementation modalities, timing, costing, funding sources and respective roles of the public and private sector.
