Project Objectives and Results:

The overall objective of the project is to improve the penitentiary system in Turkey in line with international and EU prison standards to ensure well-defined, standardized and structured enforcement service, including a fully functional system to ensure rehabilitation, treatment and successful reintegration of prisoners coming from different criminological backgrounds and prison staff performing in line with EU standards.

The achieved results of the project are as follows:

Result 1: Development of a motivation assessment tool for the definition of the individual motives behind the committed crimes

Result 2: Development of a risk assessment tool for the evaluation of the risk levels of offenders

Result 3: Development of a multiphasic, comprehensive and rapid assessment tool that will be sufficient for the use of all levels of prison staff

Result 4: Development of individual-tailored intervention programs

Result 5: Preparation and publication of training and staff manuals

Result 6: Delivery of the training programmes

  • Prison governors and prison officers involved in prison and criminal justice settings and prisoners
