FENER AND BALAT REHABILITATION PROGRAMME

Project Objectives and Results:
The overall objective of this programme is to ensure that infrastructure projects are not only limited to renovation and restoration works, but also it is possible to ensure that renovation contributes to a permanent improvement of daily life of the inhabitants in the area.
The achieved results are as follows:
Result 1: Restoration of around 200 historical buildings
Result 2: Establishment of a multi-purpose social centre to be operated by NGOs. Literacy courses, vocational training and nutrition training courses, courses for general childcare and reproductive health for women, and after school courses for young schoolchildren on subjects such as languages, mathematics, IT studies, etc. are given in this social centre to improve both education and health standards in the Fener and Balat districts
Result 3: Establishment of a waste management strategy, organisation of training campaigns on waste reduction and sorting, and recovering of solid wastes to contribute to a clean and hygienic environment in the Programme area
Result 4: Improvement of Balat market through repair and renovation works to lead to an attractive, clean, hygienic and functional market
Result 5: Revitalisation of Fener and Balat Districts through the implementation of the above components of the Programme with improvements of the economic and social life of the inhabitants of Fener and Balat
Target Groups:
- Residents of Balat & Fener
- Recipients directly benefited restoration of their houses and those targeted by the centre, such as mothers and their children, local artisans to be involved in restoration works and their families, schoolchildren/students
