Future Blood Donors Acquisition Project Closing Event

The Closing Event of the “Future Blood Donors Acquisition Project”, implemented by the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Health, and the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) with the technical assistance of WYG Türkiye, was held on Tuesday, 14 June 2016 at the Rixos Grand Ankara Hotel.

The Future Blood Donors Acquisition Project was designed to strengthen coordination among beneficiary institutions and to enhance the capacity of relevant stakeholders to promote voluntary blood donation behavior among students. The project aimed to contribute to public health by ensuring a safe and sustainable blood supply and preventing potential shortages. The 28-month project was completed in June 2016, and the event provided an opportunity to share its achievements and outcomes.

Targeting primary and secondary school students (grades 1–12), as well as parents, school administrators, and teachers, the project sought to raise awareness about voluntary and regular blood donation. It also aimed to strengthen the institutional capacities of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of National Education, and the Turkish Red Crescent in this area.

Within the scope of the Future Blood Donors Acquisition Project, numerous training and visibility materials were developed. Awareness campaigns were carried out in 500 pilot schools selected from 81 provinces as well as at the national level. These activities helped to raise public awareness on blood donation, extending beyond the pilot schools to reach students, families, and the broader community.

Additionally, under the component titled “Training and Acquisition of Blood Donors”, two separate campaigns were conducted across 500 pilot schools, along with a national Media and Public Relations Campaign, further promoting awareness and encouraging voluntary blood donation across the country.
