SİROMA Project Closing Conference
The Closing Conference of the SİROMA Project and the Award Ceremony of the Painting Contest were held on 31 October 2017 at the Sheraton Hotel in Ankara with the participation of the Minister of Family and Social Policies, H.E. Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya. The “Supporting Social Inclusion in the Localities Where Roma People Live Densely” (SİROMA) Project, implemented with the technical assistance of WYG Türkiye, had officially started on 9 November 2015 with a duration of 24 months, covering the provinces of Ankara, Adana, Balıkesir, Hatay, Edirne, Eskişehir, İstanbul, İzmir, Kırklareli, Manisa, Mersin, and Tekirdağ.
Minister Kaya’s Opening Remarks
In her opening speech, Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya highlighted that the SİROMA Project had made significant contributions to both facilitating the access of Roma citizens to the labour market and to enhancing social inclusion. She also emphasized that the project supported the government’s broader policy initiatives aimed at empowering Roma communities and fostering equality of opportunity. The Minister shared insights into the services and activities carried out within the scope of the project.
Awards Ceremony: “My Dream Job in the Future” Painting Contest
Following the speeches, Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, together with AK Party Deputy Chairpersons Öznur Çalık and Ravza Kavakcı Kan and the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Türkiye, Gabriel Munuera Vinals, presented awards to the winners of the painting contest organized within the project under the theme “My Dream Job in the Future” (“İşte Hayalim Gelecekteki Mesleğim”).
The SİROMA Project, through its two-year implementation period, played a key role in supporting social inclusion, improving access to employment, education, health, and housing for Roma citizens across 12 provinces in Türkiye, contributing to the reduction of social risks and strengthening cooperation between local authorities, public institutions, and civil society organizations.
