The First Capacity Building Training on the Field of Town Twinning was Organized in Ankara

The capacity building trainings was started in Ankara within the scope of “Town Twinning between Turkey and the EU Project /TWIN)” aiming to increase administrative capacity during the EU Accession process. The other 3 trainings about town twinning will be held respectively in İstanbul, Antalya and İzmir after the grant beneficiaries will be determined.

The first of capacity building trainings in the field of Town Twinning will be organized between the dates of 31 July- 3 August 2018 in Ankara within the scope of “Town Twinning between Turkey and the EU(TWIN)” Project implemented by Ministry of Foreign Affairs-Directorate for EU Affairs, contracted by Central Finance and Contracts Unit and co-financed by European Union and Republic of Turkey.

The first day of the training was started with the presentation about general information of the Project of Mr. Sadun Emrealp, Team Leaderof the Project. Afterwards, Prof. Birgül Demirtaş has informed the participants about the institutional framework of town twinning and Mr. Fikret Toksöz has presented town twinning with a particular focus on EU Accession.

Mr. Sinan Özden has discussed about “Thematic Approach to Town Twinning” and “Capacity Building for Town Twinning” on the second day of the training.

The third day of the training is ended up with these topics; “Institutional Framework of Town Twinning: Involving Key Stakeholders” and “Learning From Each Other” have been presented by Prof. Birgül Demirtaş.

The fourth and last day of the training is completed with Ms. Sezin Üskent’s “Involving Key Stakeholders” presentation and Mr. Sadun Emrealp’s “Ensuring Sustainability in Town Twinning Initiatives” presentation. Moreover, the training was ended up with the certification ceremony.

Institutional framework of town twinning, town twinning with a particular focus on EU Accession, learning from each other, involving key stakeholders and ensuring sustainability in town twinning initiatives will be discussed in the training devoted to local authorities. It is expected to be repeated “Capacity Building Training in the field of Town Twinning” with the participation of representatives from local authorities in İstanbul, İzmir and Antalya in 2019
