The Launch Event of the Technical Assistance for Establishing Strong Monitoring, Evaluation and Coordination Mechanism For National Roma Integration Strategy (ROMSID), financed by the European Union and implemented by the Ministry of Family and Social Services, took place on 13 July 2021 in Ankara.

The opening speeches of the hybrid event were made by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Mr. Faruk Kaymakcı, Head of Central Finance and Contracts Unit Dr. Hakan Ertürk, First Counsellor, Head of Economic and Social Development Section of European Union Delegation to Turkey Mr. Angel Gutierrez-Hidalgo, Act. Director of Family and Community Services, Ministry of Family and Social Services Prof. Dr. Olgun Gündüz, and participants attended online.

The Information Session started with the introductory presentation of the ROMSID Project, which aims to increase the living standards of Roma citizens in our country and to benefit from all public utilities effectively. The program continued by the 27th Term Member of Parliament Mr. Cemal Bekle with an evaluation on “Representation of Roma Citizens in Politics” and European Union Delegation to Turkey Programme Manager & Roma Focal Point Mr. Mehmet Caner Demir with “Evaluation of Turkey's Studies on Roma Citizens During the European Union Accession Process”.

During the break in the program, the famous clarinet virtuoso Serkan Çağrı and his Orchestra presented an enjoyable music concert to the participants both in the hall and online.

During the afternoon session, the panel titled “The Importance of Monitoring and Evaluation in Designing Public Policies to Support Social Inclusion” was held with the participation of high-level representatives from the stakeholder institutions of the project. Representatives of public institutions gave information about their roles and responsibilities in their institutions and their ongoing work within the scope of the Strategy Document for Roma Citizens.

During the panel titled “The Role of Civil Society and the Academia in the Implementation of the Strategy Document for Roma Citizens”, representatives from civil society and academia discussed the service areas of the Strategy Document, the work towards cooperation, and the solution proposals for the problems faced by the Roma.
