Analysis and Recommendations for Strengthening the Turkish Environmental Label System Project

The kick-off meeting of the "Analysis and Recommendations for Strengthening the Turkish Environmental Label System Project", which The World Bank funded, of which the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change is the main beneficiary, was held on 10 July 2023 in Ankara with the participation of officials from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, World Bank representatives and stakeholders from the public and private sectors.

The project aims to identify environmental labelling criteria for selected product groups (paints and varnishes, bathroom fixtures) that are considered as key for protecting the country's natural capital and for providing options and recommendations to the Turkish government for further strengthening the project.

The meeting started with the opening speech of Mr. Mehrali ECER, General Manager of Environmental Impact Assessment, Permission, and Inspection, and continued with the speeches of Ms. Sibel GÜLEN and Mr. Sameer AKBAR, representing the World Bank Group. The meeting ended with a presentation of Mr. Serkan ATAY, Environmental Management System and Environmental Labelling Branch Manager, on the Turkish Environmental Labelling System, followed by presentations by Dr. Yulia GRACHEVA, Project Key Expert, Board Member and Head of the Communication Subcommittee of the Global Ecolabelling Network, and Dr. Hüdai KARA, Project Key Expert, and a question-and-answer session.
