Eco-Label Project in Turkey
Co-financed by The European Union and the Republic of Turkey and implemented by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment and Urbanization with the technical support of the WYG Türkiye "Establishment of National Environmental Label System in Turkey" Project Closing Conference was held on January 11, 2017 in Ankara, Hilton Hotel.
Beginning in June 2017 and finalized in 6 months, the “Establishment of National Environmental Label System in Turkey" Project’s most important activities, is to build capacity for the Eco-label system, trainings on the EU Eco-label legislation and implementation, alignment of Eco-label legislation with EU legislation in collaboration with stakeholders, gap analysis to determine the readiness of the three selected sectors for Eco-label, and preparation of draft Eco-label legislation.
For the first time in Turkey within the scope of the project implementation, Environment label were given for three different products from ceramics, textile and the paper industry. Environmental labeling was given to the products of 7 companies, 3 in the textile sector, 2 in the paper sector and 3 in the ceramic sector, which provided the criteria.
Also in the conference, in line with the project scope "National Eco-Label Logo Competition” awards were given to the winners which started with the slogan, ‘Turkey Seeks its Eco-Label’.
Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, European Union Delegation of Turkey and the Central Finance and Contracts Unit, Senior representatives, NGO’ s and company representatives attended the meeting.
